8 of 31 LGUs have no police chiefs yet

ONLY eight of the 31 towns and cities in the province have no assigned police chiefs yet.

But Chief Inspector Regidor Alvarado, administrative officer of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo), said all police stations throughout the province are expected to be filled up next week.

The latest to get an assignment as of Friday was Police Inspector Edfel Batidlan, who was assigned as officer in charge of the police station in the municipality of Pulupandan.

Also named as officers-in-charge were Supt. Leo Batiles for the Escalante City Police Station and Police Inspector Romeo Vargas for the Candoni Police Station.

The eight localities that have yet to have an OIC-police chief are Moises Padilla, San Carlos City, Toboso, Don Salvador Benedicto, Murcia, Ilog, Victorias City and E.B. Magalona.

Noppo director Senior Supt. Allan Guisihan, meanwhile, clarified the 23 police officers will assume as OICs in their respective assigned areas until such time that the concerned local chief executives will formally recommend that they take the posts as police chiefs.

The 31 police chiefs were all ordered relieved effective March 1, 2011 after what Guisihan described as a “below par” performance in the anti-illegal gambling campaign.

Another factor considered was that some of the police chiefs have been overstaying in their respective assignments and grown over-familiar with the environment.

Guisihan pointed out that over-familiarity has affected the performance of the police officers.

He stressed though that the newly-assigned OICs will have the full responsibility to make sure that the campaign against illegal gambling would be successful.

This after Guisihan dismantled the Anti-Illegal Gambling Task Force he earlier formed, which was headed by Inspector Vanessa Sonoy, who was subsequently assigned as police chief of Pontevedra town.
